un giallo dell'anima che si svolge fra New York e San Pietroburgo.
grande prova d'attori, Paul Giamatti e David Strathairn, una sceneggiatura non male, una regista, Sophie Barthes, che mi sembra brava, si farà.
ci sono i russi arricchiti, grezzi, e qualche russa con l'anima.
fantascienza realistica, piace anche a chi non piace la fantascienza.
non è un capolavoro, ma si fa vedere davvero bene - Ismaele

…Paul Giamatti se interpreta a sí mismo, un actor que se encuentra en plena crisis personal ya que la ansiedad, el estrés y la infelicidad le atormentan y repercuten en forma negativa en su labor. Al enterarse de que existe un método para extraer el alma del cuerpo y así aliviar las tensiones, se someterá al mismo para ver la efectividad del novedoso procedimiento. Pero algo sale mal, dando comienzo así una comedia de enredos neurótica y sensible, con pizcas de fantasía, en donde un hombre buscará por todos los medios recuperar su alma y aceptarse a sí mismo.
Es una comedia humana en sus variantes, singular y excéntrica en sus alternativas, con cierto grado de picardía en sus situaciones en donde indirectamente se satiriza todo el tema del tráfico ilegal y el mercado negro de “órganos” humanos, y que se beneficia de una espontánea y natural interpretación del carismático Paul Giamatti haciendo de sí mismo…

…The man who performs this service is Dr. Flintstein, whose Soul Storage service will remove the soul (or 95 percent of it, anyway) and hold it in cold storage. As played by a droll David Strathairn, whose own soul seems in storage for this character, Flintstein makes his service sound perfectly routine. He’s the type of medical professional who focuses on the procedure and not the patient. Giamatti, playing an actor named after himself, has some questions, as would we all, but he signs up.
“Cold Souls” is a demonstration of the principle that it is always wise to seek a second opinion. The movie is a first feature written and directed by Sophie Barthes, whose previous film was a short about a middle-aged condom tester who considers buying a box labeled “Happiness” at the drugstore. Clearly this is a filmmaker who would enjoy having dinner with Charlie Kaufman. Perhaps inspired by Kaufman’s screenplay for “Being John Malkovich,” she also credits Dead Souls, the novel by Gogol about a Russian landowner who buys up the souls of his serfs.
Gogol was writing satire, and so is Barthes…

…Sur un ton contemplatif teinté d'un humour caustique, "Cold souls" joue avec les caricatures du peuple russe austère et mafieux ou de l'acteur insatisfait et torturé. L'ensemble du casting est excellent, tout particulièrement Paul Giamatti avec son air de chien battu, mais aussi David Strathairn en docteur-vendeur digne d'un télé-achat et Dina Korzun en passeuse usée.
Dans un univers tragi-comique aux dialogues volontairement absurdes, ce film curieux et touchant nous fait partager les aventures introspectives et métaphysiques d'un acteur tourmenté, comme le porte parole d'une société en quête incessante de bonheur….

…El trabajo actoral “Cold Souls” por parte de todos los intérpretes está a un alto nivel, pero el acierto que tiene la directora al darle una gran imagen al filme, un tono algo frío y en la concepción de los personajes queda desmerecido al no saber hacia dónde llevar su genial punto de partida…
