un'opera prima che sembra un esercizio di diploma, neanche troppo originale, bravo, ma un po' vuoto.

svogliato, gridato, stanco, a tratti volgare e gratuito, (la sequenza in cui
Don piscia volutamente fuori dalla tazza poteva esserci risparmiata), molto
superficiale e troppo simile ad un telefilm riuscito male, comunque
dimenticabile facilmente ed in fretta.

… Kingsley's performance has to be seen to be believed.
He's angry, seductive, annoyed, wheedling, fed up, ominous and out of his mind
with frustration. I didn't know Kingsley had such notes inside him. Obviously,
he can play anyone.
His best scene may be the one
when Logan gets on the airplane to fly out of Spain, and the attendant asks him
to put out his cigarette. Anyone who lights a cigarette on an airplane these
days is asking for it, but Logan is begging for a fight. Notice the improvised
lies with which he talks his way out of jail and possibly into a nice check
from the airline…
… The director, Jonathan Glazer, in his debut
feature film, indulges tricksy flashbacks and a dream sequence too far. His
background in commercials and pop videos begins to show after a while. The
opening section at the villa is beautifully handled. The later sequences in
London are less convincing.
Kingsley gives a chilling
performance. If Logan existed in life, no one would work for him. Such
humourless rage is the stuff of dictators, not B-list hoodlums...
Davvero notevole questa pellicola dove
Kingsley dà vita a un personaggio schizoide (si parla e si risponde), ai limiti
della caricatura, ma indubbiamente spassoso. Chiunque si ritrovasse in casa un
simile individuo, avrebbe sempre la pressione a mille (nel primo faccia a
faccia tra lui e il protagonista la tensione è quasi tangibile). Tutti gli
attori sono in palla e il regista li dirige decisamente bene. Ci sono poche,
piccole cadute (il sogno, la telefonata alla sua donna), sovrastate dai
dialoghi (kingsley spadroneggia) e da alcuni, riusciti giochi di telecamera. Da
vedere.
