in una Praga senza overtourism, piena di persone normale, il film racconta la storia di due ragazzi che dopo un incontro casuale si sposano. e quando lei è in ospedale par partorite lui la cerca per telefono, non c'erano i telefoni cellulari, per fortuna, da qualsiasi telefono che si trova sotto le mani.
una storia d'amore e anche una storia di speranza, prima dell'invasione di Praga del 1968.

Storia di un giorno di importante riflessione e di ricordi
nella vita di una coppia: lei è in clinica in attesa di partorire; lui è in
giro per la città in attesa del lieto evento. Ognuno per proprio conto, torna
con la mente al proprio passato. Pensano al loro amore, ai giorni vissuti
insieme e, contemporaneamente, fanno progetti per il futuro e cercano la
soluzione ai loro problemi pratici e psicologici. La nascita del bambino li riporta
alla realtà del presente e alle probabili difficoltà di un futuro in cui adesso
al primo posto c'è il nuovo nato a cui vorrebbero poter offrire un futuro
migliore e senza guerre
…The Cry focuses
on a relationship of a young married couple, expecting birth of their
first child. While TV-repairman Slávek (Josef Abrhám)
fares between his customers, he keeps trying to call to the maternity hospital
where his wife Ivana (Eva Límanová) lies. For one reason or another,
Slávek never gets the right number or has not enough time to make the important
call and ask if he is already a father. Meanwhile, his wife wonders why he
doesn´t call and if that could mean something. They are both thinking at each
other, remembering moments from their past and questioning their future.
This is expressed by a more or less chronologically sorted
line of flashbacks (mostly from Slávek´s perspective), constantly interrupting
the present-day storyline. Besides it, there are some lyrical shots
of trees accompanied by a fatal soundig Bach´s music, reportage shots of daily
life in Prague, and also some slightly surreal blackouts as, for example, still
frames of kids from some third world country, which altogether make The
Cry more an subjective essay about lives, hopes and fears of certain people in
certain time and place than a traditional plot-driven film…
